HOT TOPIC! New Graduation Options

By June 30, 2016November 12th, 2021No Comments

Students with disabilities now have a  new option for graduation that has been approved by the New York State Regents.

The Superintendent Determination of Graduation with a Local Diploma is an option for students with a current Individualized Education Program (IEP).

This option provides for students who have been unable to successfully pass regents exams due to their disability.

The student MUST meet the following conditions in order to receive a local diploma:

  • Have a current Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Does not meet the graduation requirements for any other pathway to graduation.
  • Meets the school’s standards for earning course credit in all of their classes.
  • Score a minimum of 55 on the English Language Arts (ELA) and Math Regents.
  • Has attempted all Regents exams, but not passed one or more of these exams.
  • Show they have a level of knowledge in all subject areas that meets the State’s learning standards.
