Getting to Know Parent Network of WNY’s Executive Director, Kimberly Kadziolka

By June 21, 2022No Comments

Can you give a brief overview of your career highlights?
I have worked more than 30 years in multiple systems including the disability, behavioral health, child welfare, and juvenile justice systems. In my most recent position, I directed a facility that worked with individuals returning to Western New York following incarceration.  We opened the facility during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was challenging, but something I am proud of.

Where did you go to college?
I received my bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the University at Buffalo, my master’s degree in Human Services Administration from Buffalo State College, and my educational doctorate in Health Administration from D’Youville University.

Are you or your family from Buffalo or the Western New York area?
I grew up in the small community of Pembroke, NY, and moved to Buffalo as a young adult, where I have remained.  I love everything about WNY; the food, the Bills and Sabres, festivals, Lake Erie, and the four seasons. But most of all, I love the people of Western New York.  My family is very important to me, and luckily, most of them live in Western New York as well.

What has made your career journey rewarding?
I’ve been so fortunate to work in a cross section of systems, and I am very proud of the impact my work has made. I’ve learned that people are more similar than we are different. We all need help to reach our full potential. I can’t think of a career more rewarding than empowering others.

Have you served on any organizational boards or received any awards throughout your career?
I proudly serve on the Board of Directors of Journey’s End Refugee Services, BRICK Buffalo Academy, and Unique Theatre Company, a theater for individuals with varying disabilities. In 2020, I was awarded an Exemplary Service Award for my work in human services by D’Youville University.

Who is your favorite song artist?
I am the biggest Bruce Springsteen fan ever! I have been lucky enough to see him live in concert numerous times.

Do you have a motto that you live by?
“Hello Sunshine!” I really think how you enter or room or how you greet people really sets the tone for your interactions.

If you can change something in the world, what would it be?
People being kinder to each other. So many things in life would be impacted if we were just kinder to one another. You never know what kind of impact you can have on someone for just being nice rather than being rude. I think that’s the tiny first step to changing how our world is.

What characteristic do you like most about yourself?
My intense loyalty.

What are you passionate about, professionally, or personally?
I am passionate about learning, it opens so many doors in life.

You’ve been on the job for 2 weeks now, what is your impression of Parent Network of WNY and the team overall so far?
Everyone is so knowledgeable.  And right away I saw how everyone values and supports each other.  I’ve felt welcomed and enjoyed everyone that has been open to sharing their thoughts with me.

Do you have any specific goals for the organization in mind?
Although I am still learning about the organization, I immediately saw the level of excellence in the services provided. My first goal is to maintain that excellence. I am focused on looking at what funding opportunities are out there to complement our services. I also want to explore what pockets of people aren’t being served, why is that, and what can we do about it?  How do we maximize our partnerships and what additional collaborations make sense for us?

Where would you like to see the organization in 5-10 years?
I see the organization growing in a way that makes sense for Parent Network of WNY, our clients, our funders, and our board. COVID-19 is going to bring a whole new set of challenges for children, immediately within the next couple of years but also along down the road.  We also must look at what’s going on in our own community and ask the hard-hitting questions, where do we fit in to help those children and families impacted.

What motivates you to come to work every day?
I love the work I do. I really like helping people and seeing people meet their true potential. I’ve been lucky to work with many different populations. Knowing that our job makes a difference is what keeps me going!

What are you most excited about regarding joining the Parent Network of WNY team?
Over the years, I often referred families to PN because of the excellent reputation in the community and the outstanding services they provide. To be able to join an organization in this way is a dream come true, because my focus will be to ensure this excellence continues and to assess how we can expand and grow services.
