NYDBC is currently seeking motivated and experienced parents to join a statewide network on behalf of children with hearing & vision loss.
Overview
As you may know, NYDBC is responsible for outreach and identification of children and young adults with combined hearing and vision loss all throughout the state of New York. With a small staff of 3 it’s nearly an impossible task without an extended outreach!
In fall 2016 we launched a statewide initiative focusing on professionals in order to expand our reach and identification. We were SO pleased with the results! Due to the outrageous success of this network, NYDBC is expanding with additional professionals and is also creating a separate but related network of parents. As a parent of a child who is deaf-blind you are well aware of the critical parent-to-parent connection and link to resources!
That’s why we want you!
DBPA-NY Commitment
We know your lives are busy! So the commitment to this network is minimal. In joining our network we expect DBPA-NY members to commit in the following ways:
– Attend a 2 1/2 day training in October 14-16, 2016 in Albany, NY
– Participate in on-going web-based meetings (approximately every 6 weeks) facilitated by NYDBC
Criteria for Consideration
– Parent of a child with combined hearing and vision loss
– Live anywhere within New York State
– Have participated in some sort of NYDBC training or other parent leadership training
– Have the drive to assist and encourage other parents & to share ideas that will assist NYDBC
Compensation
– All travel, lodging and meals will be covered by NYDBC for the in-person training.
– Stipends will be provided for participation in the kick-off training in October and then again for active participation throughout the initiative in 2016-2017.
Deadline is September 9th
