2024 Recreation Festival!

By May 6, 2024May 20th, 2024No Comments

Parent Network of WNY is thrilled to host our Recreation Festival on Saturday. June 1, 2024, once again at Cazenovia Park.  The festival will run from 10am – 2 pm, and there will be representatives from local organizations serving children, teens, and adults, as well as visits from superheroes and princesses, face painting, and other community groups, including a fire truck!  Every family that attends will receive an inclusive Recreation Guide to take home, as well as opportunities for prizes.

Playing a vital role in healthy development, recreation offers a multitude of benefits that extend far beyond mere entertainment – it serves as a gateway to exploration and learning.  However, its significance is particularly pronounced for people with disabilities, offering unique opportunities for social and emotional growth that are essential for overall development.  Our festival offers experiences for everyone.

Recreation provides opportunities for physical activity and exercise for all ages. For people with disabilities, participation in adapted recreational programs allows them to experience the joy of movement and play on their own terms, contributing to improved physical health and well-being.

Through recreational activities, people learn valuable social skills such as communication, cooperation, and teamwork.  For people with disabilities, participation in inclusive recreational programs facilitates meaningful social connections with peers, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance within their communities which promotes positive social development and contributes to lasting friendships and support networks.

Recreation plays a crucial role in promoting emotional well-being and self-esteem. Engaging in enjoyable recreational activities provides people with opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and personal fulfillment and allows them to explore their interests and talents, building confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

Play provides opportunities for relaxation and stress relief, helping to alleviate the pressures and challenges anyone may face in their daily lives. Whether through art, music, or play, recreational activities offer people a means of escape from stressors and a chance to recharge both mentally and emotionally.

Please join us on June 1, 2024, and celebrate all the benefits of recreation for your family!   If you would like your organization to be listed in our Recreation Guide, please contact us at 716-332-4170.
